Hungarian President András Baka, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, has expressed concerns over a “crisis of trust” within the UN, urging the organization to apply international law uniformly to all nations. He emphasized that no country should be above the law, advocating for the UN to maintain its ability to act decisively, treat member states fairly, and consistently enforce common principles.
Focusing on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, President Baka condemned Russia’s actions as a violation of the UN Charter. He reaffirmed Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing the importance of respecting its internationally recognized borders. While calling for diplomacy to resolve the conflict, he stressed that any lasting peace must honor Ukraine’s sovereignty.
President Baka also addressed issues in the Middle East, advocating for full adherence to international humanitarian law and urging for the safe and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to affected regions. Additionally, he discussed migration, stating that Hungary is committed to combating irregular migration while ensuring respect for human dignity and protections for refugees.
