In a closely contested match, Greece maintained its position at the top of its Nations League group after a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in Thessaloniki on Thursday. The Greek team showcased a strong first-half performance, establishing a 2-0 lead before the break. Fotis Ioannidis opened the scoring in the 23rd minute by capitalizing on a header from Giorgos Masouras. Masouras further extended Greece’s lead in first-half stoppage time, converting an opportunity created by Ioannidis after a poor backpass from the Netherlands.

The Netherlands, determined to turn the tide, responded assertively in the second half. Virgil van Dijk reduced the deficit in the 59th minute with a header from a corner delivered by Joey Veerman. Despite Greece’s goalkeeper Konstantis Tzolakis making a crucial save late in the game, the Netherlands managed to equalize in the 89th minute when Tijjani Reijnders scored from close range.

This result leaves Greece atop the group with seven points, holding a two-point advantage over the Netherlands. The Greek team is set to face Germany in their next match on Sunday, aiming to solidify their lead in the group standings.
