Lidl Hungary has marked a significant expansion with the inauguration of a new logistics hub in Kiskunfélegyháza, backed by a substantial investment of roughly 60 billion forints, equivalent to about €162 million. This facility stands out as the largest warehouse owned by the retailer in Hungary and is set to cater to approximately 70 stores across the region. The center, sprawling over more than 83,000 square meters, brings a notable boost to local employment by creating over 400 jobs, with plans to recruit around 50 more staff members soon.
The logistics center is well-equipped with 194 loading docks and features a refrigerated section that spans 24,000 square meters. Emphasizing sustainability, the facility boasts a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar system and employs innovative technology to recycle waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating. Additionally, a 10,000-square-meter area dedicated to biodiversity has been cultivated around the premises, further highlighting the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
With the capability to dispatch around 4,500 pallets of goods daily, the center is poised to enhance Lidl’s distribution network throughout Hungary. This development aligns with Lidl’s strategy to reinforce its domestic operations and support its growth trajectory. Currently, Lidl operates 220 stores within the country, sourcing nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers, which underscores its integral role in the national retail market.
The new logistics center not only represents a strategic investment in Lidl’s infrastructure but also underscores its commitment to sustainable development and local community engagement. By expanding its footprint in Hungary, Lidl aims to fortify its supply network, ensuring efficient service delivery and meeting the demands of its expanding customer base.
