Hungary Airlines Boosts Economy with Expanded Cargo Operations and Reorganization

by admin477351

Hungary Airlines is making strategic adjustments to its operations in light of evolving European air cargo dynamics, which have been notably impacted by the introduction of a €3 customs duty on small shipments from July 1. This new fee has caused fluctuations in e-commerce cargo volumes across the continent. June saw a notable rise in shipments as businesses hurried to move goods before the new rule was enforced, leading to a subsequent drop in July along with extended processing times. Although the market is experiencing a gradual stabilization, the industry is also bracing for an additional €2 processing fee anticipated in November.

During this period of adjustment, Hungary Airlines scheduled maintenance for its leading freighter, the Airbus A330-243F with registration HA-LHU. However, global supply-chain issues have prolonged this aircraft’s C-check, now expected to conclude by mid-September. The airline anticipates the freighter’s return to full operational status by the end of September. In response to these conditions, Hungary Airlines is set to revise its route network, refine its cargo-handling procedures, and temporarily decrease flight frequencies to optimize aircraft load factors in the shifting market landscape.

In a related development, the airline’s second aircraft, the Airbus A330-243P2F HA-ZTO, is scheduled to exit the fleet due to its owner’s decision to sell it. Despite this, Hungary Airlines remains dedicated to expanding its fleet size and is actively exploring leasing options and other expansion opportunities to ensure continued growth.

Looking to diversify its services, Hungary Airlines is also venturing into specialized cargo operations. Starting from the third quarter, the airline plans to enter the markets for live-animal transportation and temperature-controlled cargo. By leveraging real-time monitoring technologies, the airline aims to offer more tailored services, targeting higher-margin opportunities and enhancing its service portfolio.
